This small-but-mighty museum offers kids opportunities to explore astronomy, climate, ecology, and geology. Kids will remember a hands-on paleontology display that lets kids uncover fossils.

Enjoy hands-on exhibits, fresh and saltwater aquarium galleries, a naturalist center, a digital planetarium theater with laser shows, and a greenhouse. Kids will remember laughing at their experiments in the Gross Labs.

Hands On! Children’s Museum, 318 N. Main St., Hendersonville | Family memberships available
Kids can learn emotional and social development skills, as well as practice cognitive, fine, and gross motor skill development through educational and interactive exhibits that feature art, STEM, and beyond. Kids will remember coming here for birthday parties.

This 11,000-sqft museum offers 14 interactive exhibits, as well as programs and educational workshops that center on engineering, arts, and science.

Asheville Art Museum, 2 S. Pack Sq. | Family memberships available
Let little ones embark on an “I Spy” scavenger hunt of the museum’s colorful offerings. Kids will remember creating their own art at the Youth Studio.

Asheville Drum Circle, 67 Patton Ave.
Every Friday night during the warmer months, people gather in Pritchard Park to play drums and dance. Kids will remember improvising their own song.

Beginner pump bikers can get their thrills on two tracks with mounds that maximize momentum. Kids will remember riding continuously without pedaling.

Adventure Center of Asheville, 85 Expo Dr.
Zoom down zip lines and conquer the ropes courses. Kids will remember the view from 25 feet in the air.

High-energy kiddos can bounce across the trampoline park, race up the climbing wall, and rack up tickets in the arcade. Kids will remember making it through the Ninja Course.

The Great Smoky Mountain National Park, Various locations
The GSMNP offers junior ranger programs throughout the summer for kids to enjoy — check the NPS site for road closures before going. Kids will remember earning their badge.

The North Carolina Arboretum, 20 Frederick Law Olmsted Way
Go for garden exhibits — plus kids’ activities like geocaching, discovery backpacks, the Rocky Cove Railroad, the nature discovery room, and the TRACK trail. Kids will remember observing wildlife.

WNC Nature Center, 75 Gashes Creek Rd.
The center has reopened following its Hurricane Helene closure. Before you get some face time with the animals, find new directions to the entrance, which account for the loss of Gashes Creek Bridge. Kids will remember learning about native wildlife.

Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard, 170 Stepp Orchard Dr., Hendersonville
The family-operated orchard has a variety of U-pick options throughout the year. Right now, you can collect a bouquet of tulips — and don’t miss out on the wagon tours, picnic area, and kids’ watercolor workshops. Kids will remember frolicking in the flower fields.

This indoor play space offers specially designed sensory play equipment, creating an inclusive environment for children who are neurodivergent. Kids will remember mastering the zip line.

Well Played Board Game Cafe, 162 Coxe Ave. Ste. 101
From old classics to new and inventive board games, the shelves are stocked for endless play. Pro tip: The cafe hosts a weekly, family-friendly game of Dungeons and Dragons. Kids will remember beating you in a game of Candy Land.

Gamers’ Haunt, 211 Merrimon Ave., Ste. 241
Pique your kids’ imagination with games that take them on magical, mythical quests. Bonus: The store also hosts a “Magic: The Gathering!” summer camp, teaching reading, logical thinking, social, and math skills through the fantasy card game. Kids will remember tales of folklore and mythology.

Bowling is a classic for a reason. Challenge each other to some family-friendly competition, then take a group photo outside next to The Big Lebowski mural. Kids will remember their first strike.

Whistle Hop Brewing, 1288 Charlotte Hwy., Fairview
You might expect a brewery to be a kid-friendly destination, but hear us out. Outside, it’s games galore with a six-hole mini golf course, mini bowling, disc golf connect four, and a giant slide, and that’s just the start. Kids will remember exploring the train car.

Lake Julian Park, 37 Lake Julian Rd., Arden | Free
Here, you’ll find not one but two playgrounds with swings, a climber, slides, and more. The park also offers docks for private fishing boats, disc golf, and paddleboat rentals, which are a great way to beat the heat. Kids will remember having a picnic.

Murphy-Oakley Park, 715 Fairview Rd. | Free
This park packs a lot in its 7.7 acres, including the city’s first all-abilities playground. There are plenty of slides, climbing + spinning structures, swings, musical instruments, and designated cognitive play areas to let imagination run wild. Kids will remember stopping by the Oakley Library for story time.

Roy Pope Memorial Park, 45 Jonestown Rd., Woodfin | Free
Go for the huge dragon that’s situated between two climbable castles. Kids will remember a large pyramid-shaped rope climbing web.
