In honor of Valentine’s Day, we decided to write a good old-fashioned love letter to the one we love best: Asheville. Naturally, we asked y’all on social media and in the newsletter to share your favorite things about our city, which made us fall in love with Asheville all over again.

“I love to see the mountains that surround us at every turn.” — Judy O.

“So many people here are involved with supporting and enhancing local communities, focusing on the environment, helping people who need food and shelter, helping adults/kids find safe places to live and thrive, and embracing racial and ethnic tolerance and equal justice initiatives.” — Janet P.

“Asheville. It is a place, as well as a feeling. It is where I want to be. Stress melts away as the trees grow before my eyes.” — Kim D.

“I love my hometown Asheville because you are free to be your true self there, wear what you want, and not worry about fitting into a cookie cutter mold.” — Delia C.

Driving on 240W around Merrimon/I-26 just after sunset and the mountains are backlit.” — @mmmkla23

Battery Park Book Exchange. It’s cozy with lovely libations, a journey in literature, nooks, books, and crannies, jazz, a Parisian atmosphere shared with canine friends and on and on.

And of course the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.” — Madonna P.

Variety, variety, variety: foodie restaurants, fabulous music, warm people, hiking trails, art everywhere, food trucks, and coffee beans.” — Marti S.

Maple trees with their brilliant early reds and oranges signaling the arrival of fall. The sheer joy of seeing the first snowflakes of winter gliding gracefully out of the sky. That little glow of green that shows up like clockwork the first week in May. Chilling first splashes of summer when it’s finally hot enough to hit the swimming holes.” — @whistlehopbrewing
