Winter storm Diego has brought up to 18 inches of snow in parts of WNC, and 5-11 inches in Asheville. Over 170,000 N.C. residents lost power + temperatures dipped below freezing. And, while most of the city was shut down, some mainstay businesses opened their doors for those who could get to them (shoutout to the employees of the many coffee shops open yesterday).

However, most Ashevillians enjoyed the winter wonderland sledding, playing with pups, creating snowmen + having cozy movie marathons.

We rounded up some of our favorite snow memories below from Instagram. ⬇️

Were you in Asheville for the Blizzard of ’93? ❄️ Around 18 inches of snow fell in the county, with the heaviest snowfall on March 13. The storm left thousands of people stuck with no power for days and there was so much snow crews had to start dumping it into the French Broad River. 👀 Share your memories below. ⬇️ // 📷: Sarah Jane, Steve Smith, Steve Wilson

The magic of snow is a great part of living in Asheville. However, we’re wishing for safety for all the first responders working this week. And those keeping our city running, including nurses, doctors, lineman + more.

Do you have a question about the storm? Let us know by replying to this email + we’ll work to answer it.

Stay safe out there, Asheville.
