We’re not horsing around. Mon., Dec. 13 is officially National Horse Day. Designed to raise awareness around the ways horses benefit the country, it’s also an apt time to showcase some area spots that cater to equine lovers. Whether you’re an old hat in the saddle or you’re looking for lessons, these are the spots you won’t want to say neigh to.

Biltmore Equestrian Center, Asheville

What better way to experience America’s largest private residence than from horseback? The Biltmore Estate boasts 8,000 acres with five different 10-30 mile loops. A few trails are suitable for carriages (which are also available for overnight visitors or those with a day or annual pass). There are also 80 miles of estate trails for folks who bring along their own horses.

Crouse Equestrian, Candler

This private, 56-acre spot not only offers horseback riding lessons for folks aged four and up, it also offers training for green or unfinished horses. Wanna immortalize your horse in photos? Take advantage of its professional photography services.

Over the River Farm, Candler

For more than 18 years, this 35-acre facility has offered weekly lessons for horses + humans (with a special focus on children and juniors). Its 16-stall stable is available for boarding, and there are also options for experienced + ambitious riders to join the farm’s show team.

Pegasus Hill Farm, Alexander
