Ready to get groovy, Asheville? Record Store Day is just around the corner and we’re turning the tables on how you listen to music. From classic rock bands like The Beatles + Pink Floyd to iconic singers from various genres such as Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan + Marvin Gaye — there’s vinyl for just about everyone at these local music hubs.

Unplug the aux cord and dust off your dad’s old record player. We’ve rounded up six vibrant + homey record stores that are well-stocked and totally in tune with your musical needs.

But first things first — if you’re lacking a turntable in your life (or maybe yours just needs an update), snag a five-star reviewed record player. The H004 Hi-Fi Turntable Stereo Set is perfect for treating your vinyl right with a proper hi-fi system (plus it’s $30 off), and the H005 Bluetooth Turntable lets you listen to your records with bluetooth headphones (and it’s $10 off).*

Citizen Vinyl, 14 O’Henry Ave.

Located in the Citizen-Times building, this record pressing facility + recording studio also features a cafe, bar, and record store. Dig for records, enjoy the vibes and analog art, and then settle down at Session Cafe & Bar for some fine food and drink.

Harvest Records, 415 Haywood Rd. Ste. B.

This West Asheville spot boasts an unbeatable selection of new and used LPs, as well as used cassettes + CDs across genres. Pro tip: Don’t miss the listening station on the used LP you’re considering, and be sure to check out the accessories (like record cleaning brushes) for your collection.

Records in the RAD, 37 Paynes Way Ste. 003

Owned by relatives of Grammy award-winning local musician Warren Haynes, the city’s newest record shop is located in the River Arts District next to Wedge Brewery. Here, you can expect to find a variety of records ranging from obscure psych to folk.

Static Age-Records, 110 N. Lexington Ave.

This downtown shop is part record store, part beer bar, and part performance studio where you can see live bands, DJs (like local emcee Nex Millen) + more. When it comes to vinyl, you won’t find a lot of mainstream music among their huge selection — little-known gems reign supreme here.

Voltage Records, 90 N. Lexington Ave.

In addition to new and rare releases, this downtown shop offers a solid selection of older records, including classical, rock, punk + hip-hop. Wanna wear your fave artist on your chest? They also have an assortment of cool band T-shirts.

Earth River Records, 235 Weaverville Rd.

This hidden gem, which opened shop last October, offers a robust collection that includes thousands of albums, posters, and collectibles. Locals say it’s a fantastic spot to have a conversation about music or get your hands on some rare mint tunes.
