Tomorrow + Sunday, LEAF Global Arts and the YMI Cultural Institute host Reimagine 2020, a virtual + in-person celebration and fundraiser of our arts and cultural scene that will feature live music, seminars, exhibitions + more. The action is all happening around The Block downtown, near the headquarters of both LEAF + the YMI at Market and Eagle St.

LEAF Global Arts, which cancelled both their fall + spring fests (also their biggest fundraisers) at Lake Eden, as well as this summer’s LEAF Downtown, for the first time in history, has pivoted to a small-format weekend of family-friendly activities that will unfold in physical + digital spaces. The fest includes both free + ticketed events, and funds from ticket sales + donations will go to support the two orgs. Masks + social distancing are required.

Here’s what to expect

  • Five stages around The Block – at Triangle Park, outside and inside LEAF Global, inside the YMI + outside at 29 S. Market St. All indoor events require pre-registration + tickets.
  • Local music showcases, including performances from Ryan RnB Barber + BoogiTherapy, Debrissa and the Bear King, and LYRIC, who will play a tribute to Nina Simone, on Saturday, and Natural Born Leaders, Kalimba Man, and a Slay the Mic Showcase on Sunday. Plus, DJ sets from local faves like Nex Millen + Oso Rey.
  • Healing sessions led by yoga + mindfulness nonprofit Light A Path (free; pre-registration required).
  • A comedy showcase highlighting local + regional comics ($20 ticket required).
  • A Healing Arts Center where local African-American healers will be offering consultations + services, including massage + acupuncture.
  • A kalimba workshop + performance for kids, led by Kalimba Man Kevin Spears (free; pre-registration required).
  • A performance + workshop from Kinobe of Uganda (free; pre-registration required).
  • Performances + interactive events, including a lantern parade with Street Creature Puppets, a candlelight vigil, hip hop and African diaspora youth performances, a Say Their Names” art exhibit + more.

The livestream + virtual events include the daily opening ceremonies, music performances, and panel discussions on everything from Black storytelling to LatinX women’s issues.

While we really miss gathering with friends at Lake Eden, we’re so excited about Reimagine 2020 and all the new ways we’ll be sharing our #LEAFlove.
