Bonus: Some of these locations offer ice skating, tubing, zip lining, beer, and shopping. Even better, they all offer hot cocoa.

Appalachian Ski Mountain | Blowing Rock | ~ 2 hours from AVL

With three beginner slopes, three intermediate, three expert + three freestyle slopes, no one will be left out. Pro tip: They also offer night skiing.

Cataloochee Ski Area | Maggie Valley | ~45 mins from AVL

The oldest ski area in the state, with 18 slopes and five lifts. Best part? For those non-skiers, head over to Tube World located just a few miles from the slopes for some (you guessed it), tubing.

Beech Mountain | Beech Mountain, ~2 hours from AVL

There are 13 slopes and five lifts ready to make your day in the snow worthwhile, along with ice skating, tubing, freestyle terrain, a skybar + Beech Mountain Brewing Company — one of the only US breweries owned and operated by a ski area. (Talk about Funday).

Wolf Ridge Ski Resort | Mars Hill, ~40 minute drive

Perfect for those who want to spend more time on the slopes than on the road. In addition to skiing + snowboarding 15 slopes, you can spend your day on the Tube Run featuring a “magic carpet” lift.

Hawks Nest Tubing + Zipline | Seven Devils, ~1 hour, 45 min from AVL

Featuring four areas + 30 different lanes, this is definitely the largest tubing park on the East Coast. Plus, over 20 ziplines with 4 miles of zipline riding
