Now that the state’s Stay At Home order has been extended through May 8and Buncombe County’s has been extended indefinitely – you might be feeling the need to diversify the selection at your favorite neighborhood watering hole (i.e. your home bar). Since alcohol purveyors are considered essential businesses (classified under food + beverage in Gov. Roy Cooper’s executive order), and since we live in a mecca for craft brewing, there are plenty of places to restock. We asked you for recommendations on where to go to get your happy hour on, and today we’re sharing your picks.

DYK: Alcohol sales in NC are controlled by the state’s ABC Commission, which oversees all alcoholic beverage sales, transportation, manufacture, consumption + possession. And alcohol is an important moneymaker for our state – Last year, revenue from alcohol sales, taxes + fees totaled $1.2 billion. Of that, $463 million was distributed to N.C.’s General Fund, and to the local municipal governments where those sales took place.

Spirits are sold through the state’s 437 ABC stores12 located in Buncombe County, and by individual distilleries. While this breakdown doesn’t include ABC stores, they’re all open right now as well. Protip: All of our ABC stores can do special orders for you, with no minimum order requirement.

Most places offering delivery usually only deliver to certain areas of town, so be sure to check to see if you’re in the delivery radius before ordering. Unless otherwise stated, delivery usually costs at least $5.

Looking for everything in one place? The Asheville Craft Beverage Collective offers beer, cider, and wine, plus coffee, tea, and other non-alcoholic libations, for pick-up and delivery.
