Asheville locals Min Xiao-Fen and River Guerguerian are teaming up to put on a dream event for music and movie lovers, performing original film scores at a live film screening.

Min Xiao-Fen is a composer and multi-instrumentalist, renowned for her fresh approach to the pipa, a traditional Chinese instrument with a 2000-year history. Combined with the stylings of percussionist River Guerguerian, the pair bring a dynamic sound to the stage.

Xiao-Fen received a commission from the Smithsonian Institution to compose new original scores for “Romance of the Fruit Peddler” and “Romance of the Western Chamber,” two historical Chinese silent films from the 1920s.

Both films will be screened as the pair performs Xiao-Fen’s new scores. The performance will take place at Black Mountain College Museum + Arts Center on Thursday, June 22 from 8-10 p.m. Find tickets for $15.
