With the holidays in full swing, we’re amongst one of the busiest times of the year. But as you mark up your calendars, make room for these philanthropy-focused events happening this month, supporting organizations working to help meet community needs. From live shows to toy drives, here are 10+ events that are giving back this December.

Benefits + fundraisers

Under the Stars 2024 | Friday, Dec. 6 | 6:30-9:30 p.m. | Asheville Museum of Science | $65+ | Enjoy games, live music, drinks, and food from Sage and Spice during this fundraising event for the museum and the critical needs of our community.

The Venture Asheville Honors | Wednesday, Dec. 11 | 6-9 p.m. | The Orange Peel | $35 | This night of live performances and interviews with business owners + community leaders aims to raise $1 million for Optimist Ventures, a fund aiding local businesses affected by Hurricane Helene.

Lamplight AVL Fundraising Gala | Friday, Dec. 13 | 7-11 p.m. | Lamplight AVL | $50+ | Dress up to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, and karaoke while contributing to the nonprofit’s Art Remains grant fund.

Concerts + performances

Come Together: Joe Marcinek’s Dead Funk Summit | Friday, Dec. 6 | 9 p.m. | Asheville Music Hall |$ 20+ | Local artists and special guests are coming together to support IamAVL, which is currently supporting the local music community through its Music Industry Relief Fund.

Artist ReLEAF Concerts | Saturday, Dec. 7, Saturday, Dec. 14 | 4 p.m. | LEAF Global Arts | Donation based | This weekend, hear the ukulele stylings of Kelle Jolly and head back next weekend to catch singer-songwriter Derian Blane — proceeds benefit the performers as well as the LEAF Local Artist Relief Fund.

Jolly Boat Bash Benefit Show | Wednesday, Dec. 11 | 8 p.m. | The Grey Eagle | $12 | Local band Boat Command will share the stage alongside plenty of guests, with 100% of proceeds benefiting the River Arts District Artists.

Hip-Hop for Housing | Saturday, Dec. 14 | 6-9 p.m. | Catawba Brewing Co. | Donation-based | All ticket proceeds from this night of live performances benefit Homeward Bound and its mission of ending homelessness in WNC.

Together We Rise | Sunday, Dec. 15 | 7 p.m. | The Grey Eagle | $37 | Artists John Cowan, Darrell Scott, Andrea Zonn, and Jeff Sipe will perform at this benefit show for BeLoved Asheville.

Toy drives

13th Annual Ingles Magical Toy Drive | Thursday, Dec. 5-Saturday, Dec. 7 | Hours vary | Ingles, Smokey Park Highway | Donate new toys, books, clothing, and gift cards to fill Eblen Charities’ Saint Nicholas Project — you can also purchase gifts online from the nonprofit’s registry.

Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office Toy Drive | Friday, Dec. 6-Saturday, Dec. 7 | 8 a.m.-8 p.m. | Walmart, Weaverville | Spread joy to local kids in need by offering new, unwrapped toys.

Santa Pal Toy Drive | Through Wednesday, Dec. 11 | Hours vary | Various locations | Bring new toys, coats, and blankets to various locations throughout Asheville, or bring items to the drive-thru donation day this Saturday, Dec. 7.
