Fitz and the Wolfe has a story to tell.
The new bar and music venue occupying the former Isa’s Bistro nods to two important figures in Asheville’s literary history, encapsulating their styles with two floors of nightlife. But with three distinct rooms, you can choose your own adventure.
We got a chance to check it out this week. Here’s what to know before the bar hosts its Grand Ole Opening party this Saturday, May 31, celebrating with hours of honky tonk tunes and late night jazz.
Atmospheres to explore
The venue’s three rooms cater to different vibes. The Showroom is for anyone who’s ever been called “the life of the party,” bringing vibrant energy with flashy neon signs, pop culture iconography from the ‘50s to today, live music, and late-night bites. The food menu boasts a Chicago-style hot dog, caprese sandwich, and a delicious smash burger, with most menu items coming in at under $10.
When you’re ready for a dance break, The Den downstairs is decked out in leather and velvet, boasting dark academia-inspired decor that pairs with strong and sophisticated sips. Plus, there’s a pool table and vintage pinball machines from Sexton’s Music and Games in Black Mountain.
The Palm Room sits in between, bridging the ambiance of the two — if you can find the secret entrance, you’ll enter the dimly lit, jewel-toned bar with an upscale cocktail menu. The space is packed with Instagram-worthy photo ops and specialty drinks, like the Smoke over 5th Avenue.
Events to experience
If you want to get in on some of the fun, there are events Wednesday through Saturday in The Showroom. Join Swing Asheville for swing dancing lessons on Wednesdays, singer-songwriters nights on Thursdays, Showroom on Shuffle (aka a rotating selection of musical acts) on Fridays, and Honky Tonk and Barn Burners on Sarturdays.
