📍Max Patch, 8, Spring Creek, NC 28743 | Easy – Moderate | ⛰ 1.5 to 2.5 miles (round-trip) | 🚘 ~1 hour from AVL | 🐶 yes, on leash

This famous hike along the Appalachian Trail (AT) is a 4,600-ft mountain bald near Hot Springs. Once cleared to be used as a pasture in the 1800’s, this bald provides wonderful 360-degree views that makes for a perfect picnic or camping adventure.

Pick between two loops, a short loop that is about 1.5 miles or a longer loop that is about 2.5 miles, both wrapping around the mountain. If you are wanting more of a hike feel free to continue along the AT in either direction.

Been on this hike? Share it with a friend. Wanting to try it out yourself? Pass it along to your hiking buddy + plan for the weekend.
