Celebrating Small Business Saturday in Asheville

Asheville is made up of so many wonderful small businesses — here are a few our readers love in honor of Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday, an initiative dedicated to celebrating and supporting small + locally-owned businesses and the impact they have in our communities, is on Saturday, Nov. 30.

The day falls between two of the biggest shopping days of the year — Black Friday and Cyber Monday — and has become an annual shopping tradition for many since its establishment by American Express in 2010.

If you’re looking to join in on the festivities this year, check out our list of a couple of City Editor Grace’s + City Editor Molly’s favorite small businesses — and some suggestions from our followers.

Whist | The Haywood Road shop is often City Editor Grace’s first stop for gift shopping (although she almost always picks up a puzzle for herself, too). Be sure to also hit surrounding shops like Flora, Bagatelle Books, and EMOTE for a perfect shopping day.

Sweeten Creek Antiques | When it comes to shopping for gifts, City Editor Molly loves a treasure hunt — and this shop has rows and rows of unusual offerings, fascinating finds, and intriguing trinkets. Plus, you can guarantee that whoever gets your gift won’t have anything like it.

Looking for more spots for your shopping spree? Check out these small businesses our followers love:

  • Embellish Asheville | “They are the best curated, affordable jewelry and gifts, and just walking in there gives all the vibes of self indulgence without the price tag.” — @mamaofmatilda
  • Ginger’s Revenge | “The best ginger beer around, with local owners who care about this community.” — @arosan333
  • Pollen | “Best coffee & best flowers & best people.” —@highvintageavl
  • Sparky’s Toys & Gifts | “More than a toy shop... being there makes me feel like a kid!” — @constancelombardo
  • There There | “Mindy has done an amazing job creating the most beautiful space full of thoughtful, cozy, and chic gifts, home decor, and clothing.” — @gentry684
  • The Smokin’ Onion | “They have the best food in town, and they have the kindest hearts.” — @ashevilledragonfly

Reminder: Shopping small isn’t limited to only this day — our local businesses shine (and need our community’s support) all year long.
