Three new businesses move in at 387 Haywood Rd.

A general store, tattoo shop, and glassblowing studio are giving life to the long-vacant West Asheville building.

Sandwiched between Cellarest Beer Project and Double Crown, the big white brick building has gotten a fresh new look — and new tenants. The top floors have been vacant for some time, but it’s now a hub for handcrafted art, home goods, and fresh ink. Get acquainted with three new businesses at 387 Haywood Rd.

Haunt

Owner Anneliesse Gormley admits that it’s difficult to put Haunt into a box.

There’s a flower bar, fridge full of New Stock Pantry goodies, bulk dried herbs, woodworking tools, gardening supplies, and eclectic clothing + housewares. You could call it a general store — but possibly the most whimsical general store you’ve ever stepped foot in (see: the giant wooden horse beckoning your attention in the back room).

It’s also home to spoon + hook goods, Gormley’s own hand-carved wooden items, from spoons to cheese boards with flowers encased inside.

Haunt’s broad-ranging offerings are the point. The shop pays homage to the beloved haunts that Asheville has lost over the years. You might not be able to buy chicken feed at Southern States anymore, but Haunt has it. Miss refilling on laundry detergent at Ware? Haunt has you covered.

Sorry, only Beyoncé is allowed to touch the horse.

Woodland Tattoos & Talismans

Next door, tattoo artists and owners Em and Rachel specialize in intricate, fine-line, black and grey work. Take a look at both artists’ work and make an appointment to get tattooed in the new shop, which boasts “the most aesthetic vibes in town.”

Nice Time Glass

The gallery and studio space is full of delicate, showstopping glassworks from artists and owners Haley Jelinek and Kathryn Adams. Stop by the gallery Friday through Sunday from 12 to 6 p.m. to pick from a perfect selection of colorful glasses and vases.

Subject Matter Studio

The design studio isn’t new to the West Asheville space, but we still have to give them their flowers for their vibrant, intricate, limited-edition screen-printed posters. You’ve probably seen Drew and Grace Findley’s talents on display at a concert merch stand, making special posters for Billy Strings, The Avett Brothers, and Tedeschi Trucks Band.

You can go ahead and stop by these new businesses, but save some excitement for an Aug. 16 grand opening celebration later this summer.
