Hey Asheville, Audra here. 👋 Who is ready for a little March Madness? Because I totally am. Not to mention our city has been flexing in the sports scene as of late – from Fed Cup to SoCon – we’ve got allll the athletic hype. So, to kick-off this month of basketball-filled anticipation, let’s see what SoCon 2019 has in store for Asheville. 🏀

About 30,000 people are estimated to be in attendance for the Southern Conference tournament this weekend, which means lots of fans + lots of $$$. Ten teams (The Citadel, ETSU, Furman, Mercer, UNC Greensboro, Samford, UTC, WMI, WCU + Wofford) will compete in both the men’s + women’s championship tournament, from March 7 to March 11 at the U.S. Cellular Center. Tickets range from $10-$250.

The women’s tournament kicked off yesterday with the quarterfinals. See live results here. Today, the women’s tournament semifinals will take place at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., with the championship final on Sunday at noon.

Tonight, VMI will play WCU at 5 p.m., and Samford will play The Citadel at 7:30 p.m. in the men’s first round. The men’s quarterfinals will be on Saturday, the semifinals will be on Sunday, and the championship final goes down on Monday. Full schedule here.

However, watching hoops isn’t the only thing to do at SoCon this weekend. There are several special events for the community such as the Downtown Dribble & KidsFest, Hoops Against Hunger, SoCon Teddy Bear Toss, and Hometown Heroes Night. The free SoCon Fan Experience will take place at 68 Haywood St. (across from the U.S. Cellular Center) throughout the entire weekend with concerts, food, a pep rally stage, big screen viewing area + more.

Are you pumped for SoCon? Dribble it, pass it, shoot it over to a friend. ⬇️
