WNC Strive Beyond 2020 (formerly Strive Not to Drive) happens May 18-25. The weeklong event encourages people to use means of transportation other than the private vehicle, including public transportation, bicycling + walking, to get around. And since we’re probably driving a little less these days, it’s the perfect time to explore the many ways we have to move, besides in our cars.

While Strive Beyond normally unfolds through organized events that involve many community members, this year’s events have been designed for individuals + families, and will take place on a much smaller scale to keep people safe during COVID-19. Public, community-oriented events will take place in the fall.

Here’s what we’re looking forward to during this year’s Strive Beyond

  • A Neighborhood Out Discovery Tour – With the help of Asheville on Bikes, Strive has created maps for walking + biking tours to help folks discover the wonders all around them. You can also make your own maps and share them with the community.
  • A Bike Rack Scavenger Hunt – Participants will use an app, Collector for ArcGIS, to track their discoveries of bike racks near them, and will also share their finds on social media.
  • The annual Ride of Silence – This event honors cyclists who have died or been injured riding on public roads. It will happen Wed., May 20. Individuals are invited to participate on their own to comply with physical distancing recommendations.

And, if you have questions about biking basics, safe routes, distancing on trails and in public spaces, and related topics, check out Homeschool for Strive Beyond’s tips + tricks.
